Find formulas that were overwritten with values between two Excel versions
When someone pastes values over a calculated cell, the new version still shows a sensible number — but it will never update again.
Why it matters
- Paste-as-values over formulas is a common shortcut when a file is slow or a link is broken.
- Cell-by-cell diffs bury this among hundreds of normal value changes.
How to find it manually in Excel
- Microsoft Spreadsheet Compare (Office Professional Plus on Windows only) lists "entered value changed" and "formula changed" separately.
- Otherwise compare Show Formulas views side by side.
How DraftReview detects it
DraftReview aligns rows by their labels, then ranks a formula that became a constant as high risk, above ordinary value changes.
How to fix it
- Restore the formula from the old version.
- If the override is intentional, document who approved it.
